Sanitaire SC888N SC888 Tradition Upright Vacuum Cleaner - Powerful Suction for Carpets & Hard Floors | Ideal for Home, Office & Pet Hair Cleaning

I had the regular blue non-commercial Sanitaire for many years and it performed well. My son needed a vacuum in college, so he took it and I upgraded to this Sanitaire. It is very solid…the cord is thick and will last much longer. I highly recommend this model of Sanitaire. You can buy the low-allergen cloth bags and it performs like a good HEPA vacuum.We liked that this is a no frills Vacuum. Do wish it had less plastic parts, as compared to our 40 year old Royal vacuum that died. Super long cord, can do most of house with out changing plug. Cord is pretty heavy duty (thick), but do not have to worry about running it over and cutting it.This vacuum was built to vacuum carpet. Period. But that is exactly what I needed it for. It is amazing with carpets. Massive air flow and powerful beater bar. Yes it is heavy, but similar to a Miele U1 in that regard. I bought it for a single floor, so no issues with the weight. Old school technology that is more effective on carpets than modern day tech. I love that every part is repairable by the owner. If you need a hose or need to clean hard floors this is definitely not the vacuum you want. Despite the weight, much more nimble than my Miele U1. The loop handle is very ergonomic and helpful when pulling back the vac. 50’ cord is awesome in my 80 year old house that has just a few 3 prong outlets on each floor. This vac reminds me of the Hoover Convertible my mom used 50 years ago. But the disposable cloth dust bag is much more effective than the old paper bags at capturing fine dust. It holds a lot of debris. This is definitely not for a one-vacuum home.My old cheap department store vacuum caught fire (motor windings). After the yellow acrid smoke cleared, I had the same epiphany I did when the last washing machine broke, "No more unrepairable overcomplex crap" and did my homework on vacuums. Lead me to this one:1) Budget... I value quality but not crazy bout spending a lot on this type of appliance. This didn't make my wallet cry.2) Parts availability and serviceability. Everything is easy to get to, source and affordable to replace.3) The suction sounded like something I wanted and I was right. It lifts the carpet right up to the machine and has gotten so much more dirt out of my carpet my former vacuum missed. I monster truck thru debris and it gets it all. Love it.Cons (sorta):1. It's not lightweight, but I'm a 6'5" man... I can handle that. The women in my life? Little on the dainty side and find it a struggle. But one less chore for them, I do it.2. That cord, it's stiff, well built, will probably outlast us all. But it's very long and rather a chore to coil up, but on the other hand it can reach very corner of my home without unplugging it. So that's nice.3. Knew this in advanced, but does not work worth a darn on bare floors. Not a deal breaker for me, I use a different appliance for those.After doing a ton of shopping and research, I ordered the SC888.I was very happy with the fit and finish, quality and long ass cord.Did a great job on my frize style carpetThen, I returned it.Why you ask?On account ofit’s weight at almost 20 lbs.At the best setting for my carpet agitation, it was a chore to push it around and I’m no weakling!For my wife,… fuggetaboutit!So back it went.In its place I went with the 5 amp SC679K. It’s no where as robust as the 888, but at 10.5 lbs. it’s a nice quality made upright that is just right to use.It has good suction and will pull in pet hair from a few inches away. I've had no problems with it so far. I would say its on the heavy side.I am completely pleased with this vacuum cleaner!I know from the quality of construction that it will last for years and then some.Sanitaire is the best you can get!Sanitaire vacuums if well taken care of last forever!! This machine has been around since I was a young boy and I really enjoy the design of them!! Yea there’s been changes over the years but I really enjoy the latest update with the comfortable handle grip and detachable cord!I LOVE this vacuum great suction does an amazing job BUT this vacuum is a bit heavy. Other then that it’s great!
